Description

Some Doom pwads replace the CWILV graphics with large amounts of text (i.e. story text) or screenshots.

Notable examples of pwads that do this are the unofficial commercial wads Perditions Gate and Hell 2 Pay.

It looks a bit silly when Dday displays these CWILV graphics in the Map Title and/or automap. In the above mentioned wads it leads to the Map Title displaying story text meant to be seen by the player at the end of the level.

In a smaller and probably negiable issue. The original Doom and Doom2 maps E3M7 and Map11 feature different automap names to their CWILV; "Limbo" and "O of Destruction", rather than "Gate to Limbo" and "Circle of Destruction" respectively. Since Dday began using CWILV graphics on the automap, these alternate map names are no longer displayed by Dday.

I'm not sure there is much more we can do about this in practice. Any ideas?

A compatibility cvar that restricts the use of CWILV graphics to the intermission?

Later on we should implement a mechanism for forcing cvars to certain values in specific configurations/addons. It could even feature a central online database (perhaps part of the add-on repository) where certain known wads like the ones mentioned here automatically get their metadata from.

Increasing priority as the CWILV graphics are also now used in the in-automap map title display as of 1.11

Perhaps there could be a simple heuristic that determines if the replaced CWILV is much taller than a line of text, and if so, it isn't used as the map title?

The "hud-title" cvar now disables the display of the map title (and thus CWILV) both in the start of a map and in the automap. One should set this cvar to 0 if playing PWADs that use CWILVs for non-title purposes.
