Description

I've noticed with the new version using 1 or 50 PK3
files at load occasionally causes sudden disk thrashing
ingame, either with sudden pauses (but music still
playing) and/or sudden framerate drops (which shouldn't
be happenning on my XP 2100+ CPU). Please look into
this if you can

I forgot to say, this NEVER happened with the 1.7.13-x
snapshots or lower.

There is also sometime increased disk activity (causing
momentary frame rate drops - to less than 1 FPS), when
playing demos with high resolution textures - this effect
occurs even when it is not apparent in normal gameplay.

The effect is most noticable when moving into new areas of
the level (for example opening a door to a new section).

There is a long disscussion concerning this problem in
newdoom forums under Technical issues -> Framerate Issue
topic.

I haven't experienced this problem myself.

I found out this DOESN'T happen (brief game pauses) when
high res patches or textures aren't used, and when a mixture
of models and sprites used, along with Subwolf's detail wad.

I have a possible solution: have Doomsday only load models,
textures and flats that are used in the current level, which
might reduce disk thrashing
