Unfortunately Direct3D is not a very fun API to work with. Thus,
OpenGL will always have a higher priority in my book. The Direct3D
renderer is a fallback alternative to be used when OpenGL doesn't
work.
Besides, the hardware I have at my disposal does not even support all
the new DX9 features.
