Binding Classes (allows multiple command strings to be bound to the same event). Read-only cvars (cvars that cannot be modified at all by the user). Tracking of key/button down state (mouse/keyboard/joystick) for use when switching binding classes. Various console shortcuts (ie command line navigation, flush buffer).
